Weekly Worship on a Sunday

We gather to worship God, and by this we are “helping one another to follow Jesus through the GRACE of God” (our vision). At St Nicholas we have two distinct styles of worship, contemporary and choral, as we know that people encounter God in different ways. We welcome people with additional needs and are creative in adapting our worship.

9:30am – The Gathering (Contemporary)

This weekly contemporary worship is led by either the worship band called ‘Blaze’ (with some of our young people) or other musicians and singers. The worship is relaxed and is on the screen. We begin worship together and then the younger children up to about 8 years old, go to their own bible teaching group which is called ‘Bubbles’. As part of our commitment to safeguarding and keeping children safe, all leaders are DBS checked and complete safeguarding training.

The use of accessible language along with visual images and videos opens up worship especially to those who are unfamiliar with church, nor used to traditional services. God’s word is unpacked in The Message, providing us with the message God has for us and how we can apply it to our own lives of faith in Jesus Christ.

Often at ‘The Gathering’ there is an opportunity for a brief testimony of how God has been at work in people’s lives, this offers both encouragement, prayer direction and a witness to the power of God at work. After our worship we enjoy a time of fellowship together over fresh coffee, tea, squash and other refreshments. We look forward to welcoming you!

11am – Choral Worship (Traditional Services)

The weekly choral services are led by the organ and the robed St Nicholas Church Choir. During this style of worship there are hymns and a musical setting is used when we have a Sung Eucharist (Holy Communion). At the Sung Eucharist: if you believe please do receive Holy Communion. The bread and wine remind us of Jesus’ body broken and his blood shed for us on the cross. For those who don`t wish to receive Holy Communion they are welcome to receive a prayer of blessing from the Minister.

The other type of choral service is Morning Prayer again with organ and choir. During both types of choral services, we hear God’s word read from the Bible, it is unpacked through the sermon from the pulpit, and we also join in the prayers of intercessions for the world, community, care of God’s creation and people we know. During this style of service there are not any children’s groups, but it is livestreamed for people to connect with us in worship online, via our YouTube channel ‘Dersingham Online Worship’. Do come and join us for worship at 11am choral services. The choir enjoy singing together and leading worship, new members are very welcome to join, and training is provided.

Special Combined Services

On special occasions like Harvest, Mothering Sunday and during school summer holidays we have one combined service at 10am. The combined services are a blend of both contemporary and choral styles, bringing a richness to our worship together as the body of Christ.

During the school summer holidays the ‘Bubbles’ children group leaders take a well-deserved break, but we do still try and provide some self-service materials for families with young children.

Please do check the online calendar for services and times especially during holiday times, or contact Pauline, the church secretary, for more information.

During the rest of the year there are services in our group at the other churches of Anmer, St Michaels Ingoldisthorpe, The Well Ingoldisthorpe and Shernborne.
